The wait is over.

Coastal Carolina now has an indoor practice facility for its football team and other sports.

And Teal Nation is excited.

鈥淭his is incredible,鈥 said Coastal Carolina football coach Tim Beck moments after the ribbon-cutting ceremony Wednesday, June 25. 鈥淎ll the hard work and all the things that the people have done to put this into play for us to give an equal and competitive playing field is second to none, I can鈥檛 thank people enough for it.鈥

Coastal Carolina President Michael T. Benson, center, and others cut the聽ribbon as the university's indoor practice facility officially opens Wednesday, June 25, 2025.

Hundreds of university officials and supporters walked into the new facility, which is across the street from Brooks Stadium, and onto a regulation, 100-yard teal turf field emblazoned with the school logo as well as one from major sponsor Conway Medical Center.

Speakers at the ceremony included Kelly Moore, chief executive officer of the Chanticleer Athletic Foundation; Coastal Carolina President Michael T. Benson; and Chance Miller, vice president for intercollegiate athletics and university recreation.

The 90,000-square-foot structure was funded, in part, by led gifts from Conway Medical Center with Novant and former Coastal Carolina football coach and former TD Ameritrade CEO Joe Moglia, who is executive advisor to the president.

鈥淚t represents what Chanticleer athletics really is,鈥 Moore said. 鈥淎nd that is excellence. We want to thank again so many of you. But I want to start by expressing my gratitude to two very important individuals and entities that helped fund this project through lead gifts. Conway Medical Center with Novant Health and coach Joe Moglia, executive advisor to the president 鈥 thank you very much.鈥

Benson readily concurred.

鈥淚 thank Kelly for her remarks,鈥 Benson said. 鈥淎nd I want to thank CMC and coach Moglia. This was a dream that has come out of the ground. Today is evidence of the commitment of a lot of people to make it happen. I also want to express my deep appreciation to the Board of Trustees for their bold and unwavering belief in this project from the very beginning.鈥

The opening of the indoor facility comes on the heels of Coastal Carolina鈥檚 baseball team reaching the finals of the Men鈥檚 College World Series.

鈥淲ith a regulation-size teal field and amenities that support year-round performance, this facility equips our football team and all of our student athletes in all of our sports with the resources they need to prepare, compete and succeed at the highest level,鈥 Miller said.

The new building includes two filming platforms, restrooms and an athletic training area that is accessible from the interior and exterior practice areas.

An outside look at Coastal Carolina University's new indoor practice facility. University officials held a ribbon cutting Wednesday, June 25, 2025, officially opening the facility.

Another feature is a high ceiling, which is especially helpful for practice on the kicking game. As far as Beck is concerned, it doesn't compare with anything he has ever seen.

鈥淚t鈥檚 great,鈥 Beck said. 鈥淎wesome. We鈥檙e able to do all our special teams work in here, everything. There鈥檚 nothing any sport or team that needed to come in here that they couldn鈥檛 get done what they needed to get done.鈥

The building has a noticeable profile, too.

鈥淎s Kelly said, you can鈥檛 come up 544 in either direction and not see the skyline of our campus is forever changed,鈥 Benson said.

And it鈥檚 the latest step for a Coastal Carolina athletic program that wants to thrive on a national level.

鈥淟et this facility of what Coastal stands for, a commitment to excellence and a bold belief that our best days are ahead of us,鈥 Miller said. 鈥淕o Chants!鈥

Benson wielded an oversize set of ceremonial scissors. He and other dignitaries cut the ribbon, formally opening the facility.

Right after the ceremony, dozens of Coastal Carolina football players clad in teal shorts and gray t-shirts added to the festive atmosphere by entering the facility to check out the new turf.

The facility will be open for use by other Coastal Carolina athletic teams. It will also include an area for student clubs, organizations, and recreation.
