Myrtle Beach High's longtime athletic director John Cahill is on administrative leave for "failure to complete job responsibilities," Horry County Schools confirmed Friday, June 6.

Longtime Myrtle Beach High School athletic director John Cahill has stepped down as athletic director.聽

Cahill will conclude his tenure in the athletic director position on June 30, according to an email sent out by MBHS Principal Kristin Altman on Thursday, June 12. Cahill had been on administrative leave for "failure to complete job responsibilities" since May 7.聽

Cahill will resume a teaching role within Horry County Schools on July 1, according to the email. He has been the school's athletic director since 2011.聽

Cahill has won multiple statewide awards during his time at Myrtle Beach, including the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association SC state merit award in 2025.

Horry County Schools confirmed details about Cahill's administrative leave earlier this week, and an investigation was ongoing as of Monday, June 9.
