This past week Green Sea Floyds girls went to Columbia to qualify for the state championship meet. There were 33 teams which were vying to advance to the state championship and only 18 would make it there.
Green Sea Floyds girls were 16th of the 18 teams who qualified. Green Sea Floyds Trojan boys did not need to qualify because there were only 16 teams. The state championship was held at the Clemson Sandhill Research Center in Columbia.
Green Sea Floyds girls cross country had to move into the 2A/1A championship because there were not enough teams in the 1A division to have a 1A championship meet. The girls finished 12th in the 2A/1A championship but were number two in the 1A division.
The girls had a score of 357.
The times for the girls in the state championship were, Kirsten Causey, 25:22; Brooklyn Sawyer, 25:23; Tania Alvarado, 25:26; Blakely Lovett, 26:37; Joana Jaimes, 27:58, Autumn Slobodiak, 29:14; and Briana Ellis, 30:43. The average time for the girls was 26:10.
The Green Sea Floyds Trojans boys cross country team finished third at the State 1-A Boys Cross Country Championship. Green Sea Floyds Jackson Jeter made all-state by finishing ninth. The top 15 finishers made all-state honors. In order to place, the runner must be part of a full team. The runner who placed in front of Jackson did not have a complete team therefore Jackson finished one spot better.
The boys had a team score of 94. The times for the boys in the State Championship: Jackson Jeter, 18:46; Gage Floyd,19:51; Humberto McCall, 19:59; Bryce Ford, 20:22; Josh Gore, 20:24; Tyler Graham, 21:37. The average time for the boys was 19:53.
Congratulations to Jackson Jeter for making All-State and to both teams for making it to the state championship meet.
