An SUV traveling south on North Kings Highway crashed into a local Myrtle Beach restaurant on Sunday evening, June 15, the company said.
Surveillance video shows a Toyota 4Runner drift into the northbound lane and then take a sharp left near 16th Avenue North directly into Cafe Old Vienna's brick exterior.
The restaurant was closed and business owner Werner Horvath said he was notified of the disturbance by his security system.聽
"I looked at the camera for the kitchen and what is going on? Who moved that table? What is all of that on the floor?" He said. "I saw there was a fire truck pulling up and then police cars came. I knew something had seriously happened, there was first responders showing up."聽
Horvath said he saw three men exit the van looking shaken up and the driver did not seem intoxicated. He said the men did not speak English.
The crash caused structural damage to the building. The fire department secured the premises and provided support for a damaged beam.
The restaurant is closed Sundays and Mondays as part of normal operating hours, but Horvath said his employees would have been crushed as the force of the crash drove a long steel table into the opposite wall.
"It's a bigger deal than it looks," he said, adding he fears there would have been casualties.
Horvath has since hired a general contractor and engineer for repairs and is communicating with his insurance company.聽He said he would like to get operating not only for himself, but his staff too.
Myrtle Beach Police Department has no record of an incident report. Horvath said there was an accident report sent to the DMV
Helsy Orozco, 25, is listed under arrests on Myrtle Beach Police Department's P2C website in relation to this incident. However, the department said he was issued two uniform traffic tickets. He received one ticket for driving without a license and the other for operating a vehicle in unsafe mechanical conditions. According to Orozco's arrest report, he stated the vehicle's brakes failed.聽聽
