Death row inmate Stephen Stanko is scheduled to be executed June 13, 2025.

A South Carolina death row inmate who killed two people and raped a girl is scheduled to be executed next month.

The South Carolina Supreme Court issued a warrant Friday, May 16, for Stephen Stanko to be executed Friday, June 13. The execution warrant is for the killing of a Conway man in 2005. Stanko had killed his own girlfriend the day before and raped her daughter.

Stanko has until May 30 to decide if he will die by lethal injection, firing squad or the electric chair.

鈥淭he justice system spoke,鈥 said Sen. Greg Hembree, who was the elected 15th Circuit solicitor at the time and prosecuted the case along with Fran Humphries. 鈥淚t's past time for it to be carried out.鈥

The execution would be the second execution of a defendant who Hembree prosecuted.

Stanko鈥檚 execution warrant is for the death of 74-year-old Conway man Henry Turner who Stanko shot and killed on April 8, 2005, before stealing his truck and traveling to Augusta, Georgia, where he was turned into authorities after a friend became aware of his wanted status.

The day before killing Turner, Stanko bound, beat and strangled his girlfriend Laura Ling in Murrells Inlet, according to the South Carolina Department of Corrections. Stanko also beat and raped Ling鈥檚 daughter, who was a minor, before slitting her throat. The daughter survived the injury.

Stanko received two death sentences, one in Georgetown County and the other in Horry County. He was convicted of murder, armed robbery, first-degree sexual conduct, kidnapping, and assault and battery with intent to kill.

He was first convicted and sentenced to death in August 2006 in Georgetown County for two counts of kidnapping, first-degree criminal sexual conduct, armed robbery and assault and battery with intent to kill for Ling's death and her daughter's rape and attempted murder.

Stanko received a second death sentence in November 2009 for murder and armed robbery in Turner鈥檚 death.

The execution warrant comes after Stanko has exhausted all state and federal appeals.
