A pedestrian crossing U.S. 501 at Carolina Forest Boulevard died after being struck by an SUV on Wednesday night, June 25, the S.C. Highway Patrol reports.

Master Trooper Brandon Bolt with SCHP said the collision happened at 11:10 p.m.

Horry County Fire Rescue was dispatched at 11:19 p.m. and reported critical injuries.

A 2015 Honda SUV was traveling north and a pedestrian was crossing westbound when the vehicle struck the person, Bolt said. The driver of the SUV was the only occupant and was not injured, he said.

The Horry County Coroner鈥檚 Office identified the woman as 41-year-old Ashley Todd of Conway on Friday, June 27.

Todd died from blunt force injuries after being struck while attempting to cross the roadway, according to the coroner鈥檚 office.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.
