At first glance, it seems to have the makings of another Myrtle Beach reality television show.

Grand Strand Law Group is an all-female, canine-loving law firm in a wild and crazy tourist town.

The managing partner and founder, Angie Knight, and junior partner Lacey Higginbotham, "met at a Harley Davidson motorcycle rally,鈥 Higginbotham said.

The home page of their website features a message from Judge, Knight鈥檚 French bulldog, who is billed as the firm鈥檚 鈥渃anine liaison.鈥 Clients are encouraged to bring their pets to the office. And if you click on 鈥淢eet My Team,鈥 you鈥檒l find photos of every employee, and their fur babies, too.

But looks can be deceiving, and the law firm would make for boring television.

According to Knight, these lady lawyers and their legal beagles are 100% "drama-free.鈥

鈥淢aking a scene鈥 is about the only thing that would get an employee fired, Knight laughed.

Also, they don鈥檛 buy you a dog if they hire you, or require you to own one. They just happen to hire animal lovers.

鈥淚 just love dogs; I love all animals,鈥 Knight explained, adding they also have a 鈥渂ovine liaison, a cow named Moonshine.

And no, they鈥檙e not feminists. 鈥淚t鈥檚 just important to me to support the women in my community,鈥 Knight said, explaining the roster which includes four female attorneys and an all-female supporting cast of paralegals and assistants, 18 in all.

Plus, the kind of law they practice wouldn鈥檛 play well on TV. The firm specializes in estate planning, and real estate, business and probate law, which Knight admits is kind of boring. In fact, Higginbotham is a self-professed 鈥渢itle nerd.鈥

Higginbotham said she came to love real estate law by riding around Horry County with her grandfather, who bought and sold land for development, and gave her 鈥渁 knack for this kind of work."

While GSLG is not ready for prime time television, the growing firm is successful in its own right.

The firm already had offices in Myrtle Beach and North Myrtle Beach, and opened a third office in Loris on Nov. 16.

鈥淲e鈥檙e following the growth,鈥 Knight said.

The grand opening was held Nov. 15 at the 1,500-square-foot building at 4721 Main Street in Loris, where Higginbotham grew up and graduated high school. Her mother operates the Lil鈥 Blessings Childcare Center in town.

Approximately 100 friends, family members and clients came out for the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Knight credited Higginbotham for helping spur the growth.

鈥淟acey has been a cornerstone of the firm鈥檚 expansion, particularly in the new Loris office,鈥 she said.

They鈥檝e overcome adversity. Knight founded the firm in 2009 in the midst of the Great Recession. She opened the North Myrtle Beach office during the pandemic in 2020, Higginbotham said. And at Loris, they made it happen despite a hurricane and a port strike that delayed delivery of their office furniture.

And they won鈥檛 stop there.

鈥淲ith each new client and each step forward towards the future, Grand Strand Law Group is proving that female leadership and legal excellence are not just compatible, they are a force to be reckoned with,鈥 Knight wrote in a news release announcing the expansion.

Timothy Suggs, president of the Loris Chamber of Commerce board of directors, thanked the firm for opening the office and renovating the building, which previously housed barbershops and a florist but sat vacant for about a year.

鈥淭hank you for everything you're doing to brighten up the community,鈥 Suggs said.
