Williams donates to swimmers

Cobi Williams gave 50 young kids just learning to swim at the Georgetown YMCA a little more motivation. Through his non-profit organization, Cobi鈥檚 Kid鈥檚 Foundation, Williams gave 50 pairs of swim suits and 50 pairs of swimming goggles to the fledgling program. The program is aimed at teaching young children not only how to swim, but about water safety, including how to rescue a swimmer in distress while remaining calm in the water.

Williams鈥 life was changed by the loss a 16-year-old and for him, learning water safety and how to swim are very valuable.

Williams presented the suits and goggles to Patricia Tuite and Georgetown Aquatic instructor Michelle Krenzer on March 10 at the Claire Chapin Epps Family YMCA in Myrtle Beach.

鈥淲e are just thankful that there are young men like Cobi, who share a passion for swimming and for kids, and we just cannot thank him enough for what this will mean to our kids,鈥 said Krenzer.

Williams is no stranger to providing for the needs of others, especially kids, as he, along with his mother, Loris attorney Maria Elias-Williams, began Cobi鈥檚 Coats for Kids in Loris in 2009. At that time, Williams began collecting and donating new and gently used coats for kids in need. Williams and his friends have donated nearly 2,000 coats to needy kids. Championed by that success, Williams was inspired to do even more in his community, and the non-profit 501(c) (3) Cobi鈥檚 Kids Foundation was formed to raise scholarship money for deserving athletes pursuing athletic and educational endeavors.

There are no administrative salaries for this foundation.
