Police lights

A 5-year-old boy visiting from the Atlanta area died Thursday night after being pulled from a retention pond in the Surfside Beach area near Glenns Bay Road, according to the Horry County Police Department.

The child, identified as Phoenix Moore, was found unresponsive in the water around 8:15 p.m, according to Horry County Coroner's Office. He was transported to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.

An autopsy will be conducted to determine the official cause of death.

Horry County Police Department is investigating.
