A 16-year-old was fatally shot on Tuesday night, June 24, near Johnsonville, and a 19-year-old from Conway is charged with murder, according to the Florence County Sheriff鈥檚 Office.
Deputies responded to a report of a shooting around 11:30 p.m. on First Neck Road. Upon arrival, authorities found a victim lying in the roadway, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, according to officials.
The victim, identified by Florence County Coroner Keith Von Lutcken as Trey Dean Wright, 16, of Johnsonville, was taken by EMS to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Devan Scott Raper, 19, of Conway, was arrested the next day, June 25, in Conway and charged with murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.
Investigators allege Raper shot Wright following a verbal altercation.
Raper is being held at the Florence County Detention Center and has a been denied bond.聽The investigation is ongoing and additional arrests are possible, according to officials.
