Loris, where single-family housing is the norm, may be getting its first large apartment buildings.
The fire-training portion of the facility, if constructed, would be built by stacking shipping containers, and would include a burn room to simulate actual fires.

Loris City Council, at a special meeting on Monday, Nov. 13, voted 6-0 to appoint William Youmann and William Wagner to fill vacancies on the board, which hears appeals of zoning decisions made by the Loris Planning Commission. That leaves one vacancy on the five-member board, but enables it to function. The board needs at least three members to achieve a quorum, hold meetings and hear appeals.

Providing Hope VA, a nonprofit that assists homeless veterans, is seeking to annex six acres into the city of Loris in hopes of constructing a housing facility for homeless veterans.
