A body with an apparent gunshot wound was discovered in the Longs area of Horry County the morning of Thursday, Jan. 9, and county police are investigating the death as a possible case of murder and nonnegligent manslaughter.
The Horry County Coroner's Office has identified the victim as 16-year-old Lorenzo Evans.
The body was discovered in a wooded area along Pint Circle, and officers responded at about 8:30 a.m., according to the Horry County Police Department. The department's crime investigation division was summoned, and the Horry County coroner responded to the scene.
Horry County Fire and Rescue emergency responders were on scene when police arrived and confirmed that the victim was dead.
An incident report indicated that there is a suspect in the case, but all information about the suspect and the victim was redacted in a police incident report.
The county wrote on Facebook that there is 鈥渘o associated risk to the community,鈥 and the investigation is continuing.
