The Federal Bureau of Investigation and state authorities were on scene at a former Horry County councilman's Conway home Thursday, Jan. 30.
The FBI confirmed it is conducting "court-authorized activity" at the Conway residence, which is the home of Orton Bellamy, a former county councilman and town manager of Atlantic Beach. The State Law Enforcement Division confirmed it was also on scene Thursday assisting the FBI.
Neighbors nearby whispered and asked what was going on Thursday morning as agents searched the home. Officers wore plastic gloves and took photos. Unmarked law enforcement vehicles were parked at the scene.
Bellamy most recently served as the town manager of Atlantic Beach. He was fired from the position in November after an outdoor meeting in front of locked doors of the community center.
John David, newly seated council member, Carla Taylor and council member Edward Campbell voted to remove Bellamy as town manager and dismiss town attorney Dwayne Green 鈥渇or dereliction of duty.鈥
Bellamy had locked the doors to the community center and聽attempted to cancel the meeting twice in three days.
The FBI said it could not release any further details, but said there is no threat to public safety.聽
Originally from the Little River area, Bellamy served on Horry County Council from 2018 to 2022. He served as the District 7 representative.
